M'akola ILBC Housing Society
Has two locations: in Langford known as Jesken Aerie and in Cowichan, known as Ts’i'ts’uwatul’ Lelum
M’akola is now expanding
their capacity to include an Elders/Seniors complex in the District of
Langford. Jesken Aerie is a partnership between the District
of Langford, BC Housing and Vancouver Island Health
Authority through the Independent
Living BC Program.
The objective of this program
is to provide affordable housing and services to support Elders/Seniors
and people with disabilities maintain the independence they
desire.
The residents are seniors
and elders as well as adults with
disabilities who are able to direct their own care and whose
health will be better managed by support and care within the
community rather than within a residential care setting.
These services and accommodations
will be made affordable to lower income residents through financial
assistance from BC Housing and the Vancouver Island Health
Authority.
This development include 60 units of Elders/seniors housing along with common/communal space for recreation, meals and personal care services. The site is just minutes by foot from all major amenities (doctors, groceries, restaurants, post office, etc).

Michele Nault McIsaac, B.A.E.T.: Assisted Living Manager
Michele is originally from Saskatchewan and has lived and worked for many years in Victoria. Michele in her professional career has worked in the fields of health and education. Michele has education and experience as a counselor. She has consistently updated her knowledge of health and wellness. She recently completed further education in Human Resource Development. Michele has been an active volunteer in health, recreation and community service.
Ronnie Birkland, Recreation Coordinator
Ronnie brings experience and education to the recreation department at the Jesken Aerie.
Graduated from the University of Victoria with a major in Recreation and Health Education he has also earned a diploma in Recreation Leadership from Camosun College. Ronnie has worked in several different Assisted Living and Retirement facilities in Victoria directing in the field of recreation and fitness. He has a true passion for health and wellness of the aging population and for improving the quality of life of every resident he encounters. Ronnie believes that life is a journey no matter what your age and ability, and he encourages everyone to be active, healthy and happy!
Ryan Kostyra, Head Chef
Ryan is originally from Winnipeg ,Manitoba. At a very young age, he discovered his passion for food, and cooking.
After graduating High School, Ryan enrolled in the Chef’s Apprenticeship Program at Red River College in Winnipeg.
In 1998 he started working at up-scale Independent Living Retirement Homes as the Executive Chef.
Ryan currently lives in Duncan with his wife Angela and doesn’t mind the daily commute to Jesken Aerie to ensure
John Graham, 2nd Cook
John took his Cook’s Training Course at Camosun College in 1978.
After 24 years of cooking within care facilities John and his wife opened there own family restaurant and began catering meals to assisted living facilities within Victoria. After seven years of running his own business John was looking for a change of pace and came to the Jesken Aerie in early 2010. John works closely with the residents.
Meal services requests and concerns by holding a monthly Food Forum meeting to ensure that all residents have an opportunity to have a voice.
