A Tenant Representative may be elected for a term of 2-years for the South Island, Mid Island and North Island Regions.
Tenant Representative Positions are as follows:
- South Island Tenant Representative (Victoria, Duncan)
- Mid Island Tenant Representative (Nanaimo, Port Alberni)
- North Island Tenant Representative (Campbell River, Courtenay)

Any person who is a tenant of M’akola Housing Society and in good standing of their tenancy agreement may stand for election.
Potential candidates are asked to send the Application Form and a brief biography, which will be distributed to the current tenants of M’akola Housing Society prior to the voting date if more than one applicant.
Participation as the Tenant Representative(s) is challenging, but also very interesting, and provides a high level of satisfaction. It is an opportunity to make an important contribution to your housing community.
Before offering or agreeing to run for the Tenant Representative(s), potential candidates are requested to consider the following:
- The Tenant Advisory Committee meets at least two times per year. . The dates of the meetings are to be confirmed at the first meeting of the year. The meetings generally take place on a weekday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. The location is to be determined based on the specified region.
- The Tenant Representative(s) may be asked to communicate with other members in the region they represent
- Tenant Representatives are elected for a 2-year term. If an elected Tenant Representative ceases to be a tenant in good standing of M’akola Housing Society or either party terminates the tenancy agreement with the Society, or is unable to complete his or her term, the position will remain vacant until the next election.
- Candidates are encouraged to contact M’akola Group of Societies for further information on the Society’s policies and practices.
- There is no remuneration for Tenant Representative participation. Reimbursement for out-of-pocket travel expenses will be provided. An expense policy has been established to govern the reimbursement of Tenant Representative’s out-of-pocket travel expenses incurred.
